Fishing and Fly Fishing in Key West and the Lower Florida Keys Flats for Tarpon, Permit, and Bonefish.

Hello, I'm Capt. Mike Wilbur and I have been guiding flyfishing and light tackle spin fishing enthusiasts since the early 1970's in the backcountry flats of Key West, Florida and the Lower Florida Keys. After many years of guiding both beginners and ol' salts alike, I am still as enthusiastic as ever and have lots of fun with my customers. Tarpon, Bonefish, and Permit are of course the main targets, but Barracuda, Jacks, Snappers, and Redfish also provide fun and action while flats fishing in the Florida Keys. I am happy to have witnessed a dramatic rebound in our fish stocks due to concern and new laws protecting the Florida Keys Wildlife Refugee. Come on down and let me show you a great time!

Vortex Charters was established to provide the ultimate fishing experience for the amateur angler as well as the most seasoned veteran. Captain Chuck has been fishing the waters on the Pinellas Gulf Coast for over 25 years and he has what it takes to bring in the fish. He knows where the fish are, their feeding habits, what fish will bite at different times of the year and weather conditions. The Vortex is small enough to get into the tightest backwater situations, yet roomy and stable enough to handle bigger seas and go out deep for the big grouper and other game fish. Rest assured that you can book your charter with Captain Chuck with complete confidence that you will walk away from it happy and well rewarded.

Superstrike Charters wants your fishing trip to be the best one that you have ever been on. We plan each trip carefully according to the weather and the type of fish you would like to target. We leave the dock at safe light and usually return to the dock with at least two hours of daylight left to clean your fish and do preparations to the boat for the next day. We usually fish between 10 and 50 miles from land. Our boats are fast and comfortable and we get you to the fish fast no matter how close or far we have to go to find fish.

Although we catch tuna year round the winter months offer world-class Tuna and Wahoo fishing. During this time of the year monster size yellow fin tuna move into an area called the Midnight Lump. The tuna fishing is very consistent and state records have been broken during this time for the past two years. Most of the yellow fin tuna average 100+lbs. with 50% of them being 150+lbs. or better. The smaller black fin tuna average 20-25lbs. but pack a lot of power. Wahoo fishing is incredible as well with the majority of them 50 lbs. or better. It is very common to catch 90-100lb. Wahoo during this time of the year. All of these fish are excellent eating. Of course with the heavy tuna migration into this area sharks are sure to follow. Mako sharks are a very common catch as well during this time and are incredible to catch and eat.

Captain Damon McKnight was raised on the water and learned what it takes to catch fish at a very young age. He has been a full time charter boat captain for the past 8 years and has been featured in SportFishing Magazine, Saltwater Sportsman Magazine, Marlin Magazine, Marsh and Bayou, ESPN TV, Lousiana Sportsman, and local TV shows and Newspapers. Followed by his love of the water and his fishing experience, one of the most important things he attributes to his success is that he gets to fish in Venice, Louisiana. The Best Fishing in the World.
